Zaniness of you, to embrace

I have discussed with you what is urgent and what is important in the context of prioritizing yourself. Now, I am in a position to draw your attention towards your zany or unique ability that only you have.

I have been discussing with you all about becoming self-aware, prioritizing yourself, and deciding what is important. Now the question arises, what to be aware of? or what to prioritize in my life? , or what is important?

The first thing to be aware of is your zaniness or the unique qualities you have. I am just an ordinary person; nothing is unique in me, must be the answer of many of you. Once upon a time, I too used to think the same, but when I started looking within myself and how things are unfolding around me, I discovered that yes, I too have unique abilities. I will share two incidents with you all.

After a long break, I restarted my studies. When I went to the college, I did not disclose that I had joined college after a long break, so they all thought that I was also a fresher student. I was asked to join the institute inspection team discussion. I did not want to be there, but it was so fast, and I ended up there. As the discussion began, the director was leading the discussion, and students demands appeared to be vague. At that moment, I pointed out something, and the scenario was changed. Yes, this is my unique quality. I enjoy this place very much.

In the second instance, in March 2019, the symptoms of Covid had just started. My institute wanted to take the best precautions. I was asked to prepare an SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) to best handle the situation. I prepared the draft and shared it with the committee members. The instructions were immediately followed, and measures were taken to ensure it.

These are the recent ones that compelled me to review my life, and I saw many instances where I fell into this position. I work very well, whereas in other positions I have to work hard to have that position. The second proof of this was the books, Unique Ability: Creating the Life You Want and Focusing Your Unique Ability, which I started reading to write this post.

I will carry you back to your chemistry classes to understand this better. Do you remember isotopes and isobars, which have made our lives miserable?

ISOTOPES: They have the same atomic number but different atomic mass. This means they will have a different number of neutrons in their orbit. The best example is the isotopes of carbon.

If you give them a closer look, you will see they all look pretty similar, but there is a difference among them that makes them different from others.
Look at the carbon-12 design. It has 6 protons and 6 neutrons at the center, while carbon-13 has 6 protons and 7 neutrons, making it slightly heavier than carbon-12. Both are stable, but because of this slight difference, carbon-12 is used for measuring standard mass, whereas carbon-13 is used in metabolic studies and diagnostics.
Similarly, carbon-14 also has 6 protons but 8 neutrons, which makes it highly unstable and radioactive.
All are carbon only, but there is a little difference in one thing differentiates them from one another.
A similar concept is with our unique abilities. It might look like we all have the same qualities, but the amount in which they are present in us makes the difference. This unique combination is made for me only, and it cannot be replicated or cloned. I only know about my unique qualities, and only I can operate it best for fruitful results. This is the reason we should discover our unique qualities because that helps us to do our job best.
When I was working in a school, during the exam time students would act out and come to the sickroom to take exams. My heads would allow them to sit and take the exam. While they were writing the exam, I would go out for a while, and when these students would take out chits, I used to catch them. I was good at that. On one such occasion, one of the teachers brought a student to my room. I insisted the teacher take him back; he does not need my care and assistance but the teacher was angry on me and asked, 'Do I have any problem?' I said, "No." For a while the student was writing his paper, and as I went out, he took out the cheat sheet and was caught. Later on when I reported this to the teacher, he was speechless. Now we are in a position to learn to discover our this unique abilities.

HOW TO DISCOVER?

Discovering our unique abilities is not a day's job. It is a lifelong process of discovering and refining. Six steps are involved.
1. Take others perspectives on it.
2. List out your 10 best unique ability habits that you do automatically to produce best results.
3. Formulate your unique ability statement
Unique ability statement = What I do (talent) + Why I do it (Passion)
4. Maintain an activity inventory: Take a closer look at what you spend your time on and how many opportunities you get to use your unique ability. Categorize your abilities as unique, excellent, competent, and incompetent.
5. Take your activity snapshot: This helps to understand which activities are taking more energy of mine.
6. The unique ability action plan: Based on the activity snapshot, we can work out action plans to bring improvement in those areas.

This will help us to be ourselves and contribute in more meaningful and fruitful ways, giving us the greatest satisfaction and giving maximum benefit to the world. Now that I know who I am, I should also focus on gratitude, which is my next post.
