Grains of Gratitude

After studying this topic, I feel like writing poetry before I describe the topic.

The following stanza describes the beauty and glory of gratitude, which we often forget to acknowledge.

Here, I present my poem, Grains of Gratitude.

GRAINS OF GRATITUDE

gaiety you protrude
misery you prosecute
so that I be imbued,
O grain of gratitude!
with your guiding attitude.

born in the mills of solitude
carried across Earth's longitude
and the latitude
O grain of gratitude!
your virtue is multitude.

dechaining from the lassitude
armoring with the fortitude
rooting me in my centritude
O grain of gratitude!
mesmerising is your pulchritude.

I owe you all my hebetude
for I know your effect's magnitude
adding to my solicitude
O grain of gratitude!
how I long to be your exactitude.

We all know gratitude. Please put it into your own words. When I tried to put it in my words, "It means thanking for something I received." In simple terms, a thank you. Yes.
When I tried to understand what makes this word "thank you" more magical and a wonder worker, it widened my understanding of this subject.
Gratitude is an emotion, i.e., what we feel about the act. So, we thank whenever we feel it is worthy to thank. Now this gratitude can be a quality in our genes—something we practice as a part of our daily life. It becomes our character strength, which can be enhanced with awareness and practice. This is what I will be talking about now. The second one is when we receive this gratitude, which is temporary.
As I was reading the book The Gratitude Jar, I was reminded of this drill, which I used to do during my school days. Slowly, as I grew and many stressors started pressing me, I totally forgot to invest in this segment of life. Over time, this good habit was also gone. In the book one line caught my attention: "Thank you for going slow today, random stranger, I thought. It’s okay. I don’t need to rush. It’s a beautiful, sunny day. My heart was literally full of joy for this person.
That has never, ever happened to me while driving before. My heart is usually filled with complete irritation instead.
Yes, I still remember my early school days before I had learned to be thankful for everything. My mouth was ready to utter all negatives except for the good. When I started to see goodness in everything, I became thankful such that anger, rage, and the irritant me were all gone. Nothing could send me on a roller coaster anymore. Life started looking much more beautiful.
As life never remains a bed of roses always, I also came across the turmoil of life that seemed to break my good habits. My grateful attitude was also lost. I remembered this when I read the above lines.
The author says that she could sense that her life was upside down and she needed to put it in order, but she didn't know how to do it. That was the point when she was asked to journal every day about gratitude. This seemed time-consuming and tiring. So, she took a simpler version of putting chits of gratitude in a jar. I have also thought to do this chit business this time. My diary is somewhere in my luggage. I like the way the author did this drill with her son, which not only built their relationship but also individual growth. Some of the excerpts I will present in my own words:
Her son one day said that he likes the blankie because it covers the whole bed; on it he can put anything and everything. The author said she was thankful because she was able to go to the grocery shop and buy food and stuff so they have enough to stuff their bellies.
Her everyday thank chart drew my attention because I was also doing that and had lived a much more organized and peaceful life. The mess began when I left it. Now, my brain thinks a lot but has no peace because I miss this drill a lot.
This book made me realize that gratitude is one of the important things I am not doing and have replaced it with all urgencies. I myself have witnessed the magical wand of gratitude, so I can say it works miracles in our lives. It is the first step towards our self-love and self-care.
