Path to Passion
So as I proceeded reading the book "So Good They Can't Ignore You_Why Skills Trump Passion," I came across the phrase "how to 'figure out what you want' and 'know what you'll be good at.'"
I had always read the story of Joseph, who had a dream of being in a high position and all his brothers and father and mother were under him. The next moment his whole family got against him, and the seed of jealousy was sown. As a result of this, he was sold to foreigners. The one who dreamt of big luck is now a slave in a foreign land.
The beautiful garden story has now turned to an anxiety arena. He is lonely, far, far away from all his near and dear ones. No one to lend a shoulder to cry on. A young boy of 17, all alone to fight. What would you have done if you were in such an overwhelming situation? Curse everyone! Be full of negativity! Take revenge!
This 17-year-old boy had nothing but to do as commanded. He was full of ambition and dreams. He had much energy. What he did not have was the time. Though he was young, he understood this. He patiently took every command as a servant. For 13 years he remained a prisoner, but his hopes were never down. All those years of prison were his training session to learn leadership and management in the reign of almighty. He quietly took all those lessons without fail (SKILLING).
Years later, when a king noticed his abilities, he was raised to be the governor, just below the king (PASSION).
In the above narrative, I have highlighted two words in caps—one is "skilling," and the other one is "passion." Did I write it wrong? Isn't it always said, "Follow your passion"? Then why this skilling I have emphasized so much before describing the passion in one line?
This is the truth I wanted to share with you all. We do have qualities, but they are crude and need to be chiseled before we actually fulfill our passion with them. So, this chiseling could be anything—a job at a lower post, a work that you don't admire, a place to live that was never in your wish list, a group whom you never wished to be with, or a task that seems so tough and out of your strength. When we pass all these hurdles, we get ready to climb our next step towards our passion. So, next time when things are not your way, just don't lose heart and be broken. Know that you are stepping one more step towards your passion.
I took Joseph's story to put my point. The book was inscribed with the names of some of the great people whom I don't know. I understood the concept because I myself have gone through it, and I know the way to passion is the process of completing all that falls in your way.
In the next post, I will talk about the 3 conclusions that have been reached through research.
Following one's passion is the most sustainable way of keep going in a happy and contented manner. A lot of people chase money. Nothing wrong, since money is important. But the matrial comforts, which money can get us, can't provide sustainable emotional comfort beyond a point. But it's the passion that can drive us forward in life, because that's what we are occupied with.
