Receeding clouds of confusion

This poem is inspired by the poem "If you forget me" by Pablo Neruda. I have borrowed the first line of each stanza (except the last) from this poem. Love has always been my theme of poems, and Pablo Neruda is one of my favorites, so I included this poem.

I want you to know

that I am not just another

flower in the garden

whom you see and pass along.

You know how this is:

when you especially come

to grab a chance to even peek in

and satiate your burning desire

with the glimpse of the one you admire.

Well, now,

as you are not so very eager

to mark me as your own girl

I take it like a reserve fill

waiting for my turn if someone falls.

If suddenly

the wheels of my destiny

swirls and brings me a chance

I might make it to the goal

which bags the crown to our home.

If you think it long and mad

why did this happen in your land?

Remember you took too much time

to choose the one who was prime.

Can you cook jaggery for long

and escape the bitterness it forms?

How can you have the gem

without knowing from where it came?

But,

conjugates couple without late

as they complement each other best.

Soulmates share this complimentary pull

and align well as they come across

in the cosmic move.

Pick up the red flags

and hold on to your respect tags

for what is yours

doesn't go to others' doors.

  1. Nice one ... From what I understood, it is all about longing, growth, and if we may call, success.

  2. You gave new meaning to my poem. Yes, these all are part of my poem. When I wrote it, only one concept was there, but as I review it with your ideas, it does have the essence of longing, growth, and success also. Thank you, sir.

  3. That’s a beautifully layered poem — tender, proud, and quietly defiant. It reads like a personal declaration of self-worth spoken to someone who failed to see the speaker’s value in time.
